WHORE PROM DIGEST 6.11.11

Whore Prom: Saturday nights at the Maritime Hotel Caffe.
Okay, so that's not an official party name or anything...that's just what I call it.
This week: a song off the new Does It Offend You, Yeah? record, minimal dance music by Light Asylum, the gasping synth punk of Revl9n and even a little 80's punk rock.  Rad!

A Certain Person // Light Asylum // In Tension (2010)
The opening track off their four song ep from last year, this is an awesome slow build minimal synth outfit with a front woman who is simply incredible.  Later tracks on the record get progressively darker, so this one is the obvious DJ choice for me.

Pull Out My Insides // Does It Offend You, Yeah? // Don't Say We Didn't Warn You (2011)
The new album by Does It Offend You, Yeah is pretty rad.  This is the obvious single since it is more pop and less noise.  Even though I prefer more noise, whore prom attendees just wouldn't be able to deal (probably).

New Age // Blitz // New Age 7" (1983)
Radical melodic punk rock complete with shout along chorus.  I usually stay synthier and dancier in my set but even I need a break from keyboards sometimes (almost never).  If you want to own it, I suggest picking up the Voice of a Generation two disc set.

Mental Hopscotch // Missing Persons // Missing Persons (1980)
Bridging the gap between punk and new wave, Missing Persons really were the best a creating very alien sounding pop music.

Walking Machine // Revl9n // Walking Machine 7" (2004)
If it weren't for the gasping and snarling in the vox, this could almost be old school Madonna.  With so much good straight forward synthpop out there, friends don't let friends listen to Gaga.
